The Assam OBC Scholarship Scheme is a centrally sponsored initiative by the Government of India, implemented by the Directorate of Welfare of Scheduled Castes & Other Backward Classes. It offers financial aid to eligible students from Assam under two categories:
Pre‑Matric Scholarship (for Class IX–X)
Post‑Matric Scholarship (for Class XI and above)
Both programs aim to support OBC/MOBC students pursuing higher education.
Eligibility Criteria
Must belong to the OBC/MOBC category of Assam and hold a valid caste certificate
Family income must be ₹2.5 lakh or below per annum (caste certificate without income will be rejected)
Only two sons per family are eligible (girls are exempt from this restriction)
Component‑II (pre-matric for Class I–X children engaged in cleaning–hazardous occupations) has no income limit, but requires a specific certificate from local authority

Non-repayable scholarships awarded annually via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) through NSP
Covers tuition fee reimbursement and provides maintenance allowance based on academic level and category

How to Apply via NSP
Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
Log in using your OTR ID and select the OBC Scholarship Scheme for Assam.
Upload required documents: Aadhaar/EID, bank account, caste certificate, income certificate, bonafide certificate.
Submit application and print/save the confirmation slip for future reference.
Renewal & Conditions
Scholarships are renewable each year, subject to satisfactory academic performance and no more than one backlog in the previous year
Switching course or institution without formal approval leads to cancellation of scholarship
Scheme not applicable for distance learning, diploma, or management quota admissions
❓ FAQs
1. Can a girl student apply beyond two children per family?
Yes. The two-boys-per-family limit does not apply to girls—female candidates are fully eligible regardless of siblings.
2. Is the income limit waived for Component-II (cleaning/hazardous occupations)?
Yes. No income ceiling applies, but candidates must submit an occupation-specific certificate issued by designated authority.
3. Can children studying outside Assam apply?
Yes. Students from Assam studying in other states can apply under their home state and receive scholarship support.
4. Can I apply without Aadhaar?
You need Aadhaar or Aadhaar Enrolment ID (EID). For minors, parent’s Aadhaar can be used.
5. How is the scholarship amount transferred?
Funds are credited directly to the student’s bank account via DBT once documentation and eligibility are verified.
