Ishan Uday Scholarship 2025

The Ishan Uday is a Special Scholarship Scheme, launched by the UGC, aims to support students from the North-Eastern Region (NER: Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura) who are pursuing full-time undergraduate degrees in recognized institutions across India.

 

Who Is Eligible?

  • Must be a permanent resident of one of the eight NER states with a valid domicile certificate.

  • Family income must not exceed ₹4.5 lakh per annum.

  • Only students in their first year of a full‑time UG degree are eligible; applicants should have passed Class 12 in the previous academic year.

  • Integrated and dual-degree courses are eligible only for the UG component; distance, part-time, diploma, or management quota admissions are ineligible.

  • The scholarship is also open to transgender students, with reservations per government guidelines.


Scholarship Benefits

Up to 10,000 fresh scholarships are awarded each year, allocated among the NER states based on population census.

  • General undergraduate courses: ₹ 5,400 per month

  • Technical, Medical, Professional, Paramedical courses: ₹ 7,800 per month
    Funds are disbursed via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) into beneficiary bank accounts.

  • Application opens: Around 25 June 2025

  • Last date for application: 31 October 2025

  • Last date for defective correction & institute verification: 15 November 2025


How to Apply (via NSP)

  1. Go to the National Scholarship Portal (scholarships.gov.in) and complete One-Time Registration (OTR) using Aadhaar or bank details.

  2. Log in and select “UGC Ishan Uday Scholarship” from the list of schemes.

  3. Upload required documents: domicile certificate, Class 12 marksheet, family income proof, admission proof, and bank passbook.

  4. Review, submit, and save or print your completed application for record.


Quick FAQs

  • Is it renewable? Yes, every year based on academic progress and attendance.

  • Can you change institutions? No—transfer of scholarship to another college or course is not permitted.

  • Can students already holding a UG degree apply? No—only first-year students in their first UG program are eligible.
